About this group
Community Matters is a volunteer run group that jointly runs a Resource Centre based at the heart of the North Abergavenny Community. The centre is open every weekday from 9-5, and provides vital services to the community that are on its doorstep, including Citizens Advice Bureau sessions, community education classes including IT, digital photgraphy, community development and organic gardening to name just a few. The centre is also home to the Youth Forum, and has weekly youth drop in sessions for local youg people to engage in a variety of projects. Volunteers staff the front desk of the centre and also maintain the community garden, for use for community events and activities throughout the summer. There is always someone on hand to help community members with any queries they may have, or signpost them to people who can advise. These range from housing to job seeking to recycling. Additionally, Community Matters run community trips for familes to visit place in and out of Wales that they may not otherwise be able to. Previous visits have included St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life, Ogmore Bay and Techniquest.
As the Resource Centre is so vital as a community facilty, and hub of services, we would like to make the centre as environmentally sustainable as possible, using it as a base to promote sustainabilty, re-cycling and waste minimisation across the whole of the North Abergavenny community and beyond.
