About this group
Earsdon Renewable Energy is an exciting initiative to bring a district biomass heating system to a village once built on coal. The local mines are long gone and we have embarked on a new era with plans for two community buildings to be heated by one biomass boiler. The boiler house and fuel store will be on the site of our Grade II listed community hall with a highly insulated pipe transferring heat to the adjacent Grade II listed church. Switching to biomass will bring an end to our use of gas for heating these two landmark buildings. Our chosen technology has been rigorously scrutinised by independent experts at BRE so we are confident our project can deliver clean renewable heat which is sustainable. We have also secured planning permission from our local council.
Situated in the North East of England, Earsdon is close to the beautiful Kielder Forest, a source of biomass thereby offering a reliable source of fuel on our doorstep. Our project aims to reduce that delivery distance to under a mile once we start growing willow locally. Yes, we will be growing our very own source of fuel so that the wood we burn cleanly in our boiler is replenished by our tree planting programme which will take place with the help of community
volunteers.
At the heart of our project is an education programme aimed at schools and other community groups. We will organise workshops, conferences and visitor days, all with the single aim of raising the profile of renewables and especially biomass. We have raised £62k for our project largely through a successful bid to the Big Lottery's Community Sustainable Energy Programme. We are now almost two thirds of the way to our target of £96k. With your help we can reach our target. Please consider giving us your support in the final vote. Thank you.
