Spring Update
Funding
2012 started with some good news for the Friends and our group; Sheffield City Council South West Community Assembly’s Climate Change Fund awarded our project £25,000, to be spent on renewable installations and related energy efficiency improvements in the small mill building. This was a huge boost as it more or less completes the funding package for Phase 1 of the project, and is dedicated funding for the solar pv, insulation and low energy light fittings + sensors, and part funding for the ground source heat pump. Further funding is still needed for the GSHP install as a whole, but at least we can make a start! We’ve been in discussion with local firm energyjump, and hope that the GSHP can be installed as a small stand alone project.
Progress
Following further survey and design work by Sheffield City Council, up-to-date costs have now been produced for the overall refurbishment work, and we are poised to go out to tender when a few details around the funding package have been resolved. Time is now of the essence as some of our funders’ deadlines are not too far away. The mill buildings project is now coming to the fore for FOMP as other park projects are successfully bedded in.
Next steps
We’re holding regular project meetings with SCC, and at the same time mill buildings committee members are continuing with historical research and development work on the educational exhibition material to be displayed on the first floor of the building. We’ll be looking for volunteers soon, to help with some basic but essential work like re-pointing and decorating.
