Project Update 7th February 2012
A huge thank you to all our supporters for voting for us and making us one of the four winners of the energyshare competition out of the 646 groups who entered.
We won £15,000 and are busy spending this on the various environmental surveys that are needed before a hydro scheme can proceed in Shrewsbury. These surveys include a full Flood Risk Survey, a Fish Pass Survey and a Protected Species Survey. All the surveys are currently underway and are expected to be complete by the end of March. The money is also paying for a 1 in 100 scale table-top model of the hydro scheme.
Encouraged by our win in the energyshare competition in December, we applied in January to LEAF, the government's Local Energy Assessment Fund and we have just learnt that our application has been approved. This allows us to commission the final 3D civil and mechanical engineering drawings and these will be put on display at a public exhibition in the Spring alongside the table-top model and artist's impressions of the finished scheme.
The Shrewsbury Hydro Group is part of Transition Town Shrewsbury which was set up in 2009 and currently has 80 members.
