The beginning of my story...
My Philosophy! To help you understand my trail of thought within this blog and the driving force behind my Group Green Energy http://www.energyshare.com/green-energy/.
Man defined is “a human being”[1] and
Nature is defined as “the whole system of the existence, forces and events of the physical world that are not controlled by human beings”[2].
The disconnection of Man and Nature
It is important to note here that Nature and man are seen as separate entities as far as language is understood. To say that we are separate from nature and that we don’t have effects on the natural world or that it effects us is profound. If we support the concept of evolution, which I do then its truth that “we are nature” and as climate change implies we have it within our powers to cause an imbalance in this complex system which we call the universe.
The Link below leads you to a Trillogi of fantastic visuals exploring our world outwards in. Koyaanisqatsi is an Indian Hopi word meaning-Life out of balance.
"KOYAANISQATSI attempts to reveal the beauty of the beast! We usually perceive our world, our way of living, as beautiful because there is nothing else to perceive. If one lives in this world, the globalized world of high technology, all one can see is one layer of commodity piled upon another. In our world the "original" is the proliferation of the standardized. Copies are copies of copies. There seems to be no ability to see beyond, to see that we have encased ourselves in an artificial environment that has remarkably replaced the original, nature itself. We do not live with nature any longer; we live above it, off of it as it were. Nature has become the resource to keep this artificial or new nature alive." http://www.koyaanisqatsi.org/films/koyaanisqatsi.php
The start of my Journey
Now you understand the way I see the world I want to talk about my journey with energyshare. http://www.energyshare.com/ I live in a Town called Walsall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walsall and it is a small town typically in transition, located just north of Birmingham Uk, the location is one in which I have been born into and for the past 28 years have experienced firsthand living in. It is a town which has slowly undertaken more recently over the past ten years major regeneration. The town boasts a new Art gallery, water front, urban splash accommodation and a giga port. The exciting informative nature of social divide and deprivation of this area has lead me to want to inquire further into my town.
Depravation
Statistics show that the district of Blakenall which is West of Walsall has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the whole of Europe, and I was one of these statistics. This information, socially poses a diverse study area when talking in terms of social deprivation, and education, It for me, poses a clue into, how we should be re-thinking the way we build our communities and what the foundations may be and where we have and are going wrong. There are 20 electoral wards in the borough several are deprived wards and Blakenall is registered with the office of the deputy prime minister as being within the 100 most deprived wards in the uk. Despite the adversity I went to College and University as I wanted to understand how the landscape infrastructure has evolved. I finished Last October with a MA in Landscape Architecture http://www.landscapeinstitute.org/ a fantastic link for anyone passionate about their environment. This was a fantastically rewarding experience.
Transition
Then came the point where you ask yourself, what do I do with this? As a single parent I felt that my daughter and I would suffer in terms of time shared, if I were to work a typical 9-5 job and I decided to opt out of this, taking some time out to figure out what I wanted to do.
The conclusion... I wanted to make change! I wanted to educate my community about the importance of Natural systems and Sustainability towards a better Quality of life
I approached my local council and asked them if they had some wasteland that I could take over and try to get funding to educate people about natural systems one of the key threads being Renewable, the council were very supportive and suggested two sites. I did the initial getting to know the sites and talking to the community, then I realised how little I knew about the community and how they use and view the landscape. I decided to work voluntary with Walsall wildlife group,http://www.facebook.com/pages/Walsall-Wildlife/117276431684050?sk=infoto get to know more. I went litter picking, helped with Great crested newt surveys and bat surveys and worked with local school children from the really green team. This was a great tool to engage with the residents and to find out what they wanted from the landscape
The beginning of Green energy
I heard about the energy share funding through land share and felt that this was a great opportunity. I applied for the funding and was fortunate enough to go to the energy share day at river cottage http://www.energyshare.com/fund/energyshare-day-programme which provided a wealth of knowledge in terms of all aspects of renewable from initial community engagement right through to implementation of renewable.
I left that day with high hopes of Big changes to come!
In my next blog I will talk about the process of engaging the community and how I gained support Locally and Nationally, I will post again this evening Thanks All! Ps. not used of blogging so please be patient with me while I figure out how to Cheers!

Thank you! Its great to see others actively making a difference, more to the point it is inspiring that you have taken the time to tell me about your story, and your path of educating is in a similar fashion as mine which is great to know, its good to think others see small changes do make a big difference. I look forward to seeing how your project evolves, and I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Danielle, I am inspired and encouraged to read your blog. I'm involved in my Primary School (Weetwood), in Leeds, , working with children & adults there, to develop their understanding of sustainability and connection with the Earth and each other.... I've done all sorts - including being a single parents, and including voluntary wildlife surveying ...our Primary school is an Energy Share Group, hoping to inspire & motivate our local community, to save energy (etc). ... good to know others are also working in all sorts of different ways..best wishes,
Rosie
