What visions do people conjour up when they think future?

Education within the community

Initially when I applied for the energy share fund I didn’t realise just how many people did not understand the concept of renewable energy. To gain the support of locals will possibly be the hardest challenge of all rounds. Energy share has set out with a vision of knowledge sharing and this certainly has shown a great result.  I know the initial applications were put in a bid for money but one thing I have learned from this journey is that you can really do a lot without money! Spreading the word doesn’t cost anything.  My group Green Energy started small with the intent of thinking big so a great story can be told and in one of my previous blogs I talked about the need for educating the community and that in some cases the concept may need to be demonstrated before many people can grasp the concept and this idea of education through knowledge sharing is my story...

Transitions

To those of you that are through to the next round and are feeling mixed emotions you’re not alone!  My project has been open to the community to put forward ideas of what they would like to see change within their environment; this has proved challenging as unless you understand renewable how are you to project a vision of what to do with them? So this part of the journey has been very complex indeed with various suggestions mainly “we don’t want a wind farm” and “solar panels are ugly”. Fantastic responses! Well actually yes! This has led me to go full circle in the sense my initial idea was to demonstrate several types renewable on a small scale, including wood and composting the lesser discussed. So this is the stage I am at moment right back at the beginning but one step closer. So to all of my fellow energy shares out there who are worried about timescale etc feel reassured that you’re probably more organised than you think.

Reflections

Last week was a very important week for us energy sharers and I would like to say a big congratulations to all those who made it through! To those groups who didn’t then I would like to say keep up the momentum! You are change and hopefully you will inspire others in future rounds to do the same and not lose sight of what you initially set out to do.

Artists have raw ability to suggest to us what the future may look like. It would be interesting is we could share visually our projections. "theres no words wothout pictures and no pictures without words"

This is now
